We expected rain on this hike, but it held off. We had gray skies
but it was mostly dry.
We started at the North Chuckanut Mtn Trailhead. About a 1/4 mile in
the trail crosses a small creek with a nice waterfall.
The trail initially
climbs for the first 2-1/2 miles gaining 1200 feet. It then flattens
out and follows the ridge top. You pass east of a ridge that separates
the trail from Fragrance Lake.
The trail was pretty good initially, but the further we got, the
muddier it got with some pretty wet crossings on sketchy logs near the lake.
At the lake there are trails on either side. We took the trail on the
east side. About half way down the lake we stopped for lunch.
There, there is an outflow creek from the lake with a very nice
waterfall. It is best viewed from below, but it was a bit of a muddy
scramble down a steep slope to get down to the base.
